10 most frequently challenged books of 2010

5. "The Hunger Games," by Suzanne Collins

This hugely successful science fiction/fantasy novel aimed at young readers tells the story of a dystopian future in which a young teenage girl must fight for her life on TV as a bizarre form of entertainment. "The Hunger Games" is the first of a trilogy that describes the dreary life in "The Capitol" and the brave young heroine who fights for her freedom. "The Hunger Game" has been challenged because readers found it "sexually explicit, unsuited to age group," and because the plot contains "violence." Collins told The Washington Post that, "I've read in passing that people were concerned about the level of violence in the books. That's not unreasonable. They are violent. It's a war trilogy."
