Although Zoë Ferraris has only written two novels, both have garnered critical acclaim. In "Finding Nouf," Nayir Sharqi investigates a young girl's death in the desert, supposedly from dehydration, although he comes to suspect that the girl's family has a role in her death. Further complicating his investigation are his feelings for Katya Hijazi, a female worker at the Jeddah coroner's office. In "City of Veils" the two are reunited as they investigate the brutal death of a young woman believed to be a rebellious domestic servant, although they discover that the case is actually much more complex. Both books are must-reads that offer unusual insight into daily life in Saudi Arabia.
