Bezos says the idea for the creation of Amazon came to him after he read that use of the Internet was increasing 2,300 percent per year and he began to think about an online bookstore that could hold more titles than a brick-and-mortar location. He says the accessibility of information online makes having happy customers even more important. "Comparison shopping is just a click away," he said. "In the physical world, nobody is going to drive to two different stores to save a dollar.... [S]o customers have great information and they have a powerful megaphone – the Internet itself ≠ to express their displeasure if someone lets them down. If we make a customer unhappy they don't tell a few friends as they would in the old world. They tell five thousand friends."
