Writing for The New York Times in 2008, Romney asserted that General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler should not receive bailouts and should be allowed to go bankrupt “otherwise you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye.” He was, of course, proven wrong, but he also revealed a startlingly Darwinian view of capitalism. “Romney nonetheless still sees capitalism as a form of ‘creative destruction’ with new fiscal life arising from the fiscal blood that’s shed,” writes the LA Times.
