2. 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close'

This film about a father-son relationship ruptured by the terrorist attacks of 9/11 was based on a 2006 novel by Jonathan Safran Foer.  "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" earned nominations for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor (Max von Sydow).
