Ephron says she based the character of Harry Burns in the screenplay for "When Harry Met Sally..." on the movie's director, Rob Reiner. "Rob is a comic character," Ephron said. "He is the all-time gloom-and-doom guy, but he's funny... He was just this delicious character, and of course I knew if I modeled the character on him there would be a good chance he would make the movie."
