3. Terra Nostra (1975)

Latin for “Our Earth,” “Terra Nostra” is widely considered one of the masterpieces of modern Latin American fiction. It is a sweeping history of Spain and of South America, an epic novel with an ambitious – and according to most reviewers, successful – scope. “Terra Nostra” won the Venezuelan Romulo Gallegos Prize.
