Jeeps surged in popularity as – during the mid-1980s – it became fashionable to adopt clothes that looked as the wearer had just emerged from a three-day hike, as evidenced by citygoers who went on their Starbucks runs sporting L.L. Bean vests. While Jeeps were once used for the military in World War II, car buyers whose only driving challenges would be the cul de sac at the end of the neighborhood nevertheless loved them.
