At Northeast High School, teachers didn't give final exams. Instead, they just calculated the grades from work that had been done previously. But Danza decided to give his students an exam to see what they'd really learned. One of the questions was, "What was the most important lesson you learned in class this year?" Answers included "Take part in your own education" from Al and one from a student named Kyle that said "Books are more than books. They are stories, too." "In almost every essay, I find advice that I've given them, almost verbatim," Danza wrote. "This is why people teach, I think. This is how you make a difference. They heard me and they remembered. That is one thrilling accomplishment."
