Reader recommendation: The Weir

For contrasting depictions of Maine life styles earlier in this century I recommend The Weir and A Maine Hamlet, both written by Ruth Moore. These books comprised part of a  four-part book discussion on Maine authors sponsored by the Maine Humanities Council. The meetings have been lively with a mingling of non-natives with a few native Mainers who shared some true tales of the "real Maine" and what it means to be a Mainer.
