Reader recommendation: The Path to Power

The Path to Power is the fascinating, straightforward first volume of what is to be a five-volume history of "The Years of Lyndon Johnson" by Robert E Caro. I began with the latest, fourth volume, titled "The Passage of Power" and thought I recognized the excellent writing. Checking my library, I found that I had purchased "The Path to Power" back in 1982. Since I don't recall reading it around that time, I'm now enjoying it, for perhaps the second time. I look forward to reading volumes 2, 3, and 5.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
