I found Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich on the floor of the car of the chief librarian of a spiritual center. My favorite author, she said. It's about Chippewa families in Minnesota. You have to read the first one first. Hm, I said. This is the first one, she said. Do you want to read it? I did. It was a straight-through, no-stops, read-it-till-midnight book of extraordinary power and beauty. I recommend it. Now I'm going to go forward with the others one at a time.
