I read about Linda Watson's The Ladies of Low Arvie: Living the Farming Dream on a website called Author's Den. Now, I am from Manhattan, but her well written and compelling story about about what it was like to take up cattle raising in Scotland drew me right into the practical issues and frequent crises of starting a whole new way of life in middle age. I started it one afternoon and couldn't put it down until the last calf of their first season had been safely brought into the world around midnight, my time.
