“Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” fever is raging hotter than ever with last month's release of the American film version of the thriller. Now, a new app called “Chasing Salander” is allowing fans to spend even more time with their favorite computer hacker.
The app was created by Norstedts, the publishing house in Sweden that first released Stieg Larsson’s best-selling trilogy. Larsson's books feature hacker Lisbeth Salander and the journalist Mikael Blomkvist who initially team up to solve a mystery about a prominent Swedish family. In “Chasing Salander,” the user plays a man sent to find and kill Salander.
Through the app, the assassin goes to 14 locations that are mentioned in the original three books of the "Millennium" series, with a script by Swedish writer-director Fredrik T Olsson. The locations are depicted through photos taken by photographer Pieter ten Hoopen. A map showing the various locations is also included and Swedish actor Shanti Roney reads the script.
The introductory price for the app is $4.99, but will rise to $6.99.
