The all-new 2009 Honda Insight hybrid will make its world debut in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

TheTruthAboutCars.com offers this concise synopsis of the Honda Insight:

"Honda’s strategy with the Insight: offer a car nearly as good as the [Toyota] Prius for substantially less money."

Indeed, the Honda Insight is the winner of the hybrid "how low can you go" price sweepstakes, while its has one of the highest fuel economy rankings at a combined highway/city average of 41 miles per gallon.

Honda reintroduced the Insight in the 2010 model year after its offerings in the hybrid market – hybrid versions of its Civic and Accord models – made little headway against the Prius.

The biggest differences between the Insight and the Prius – beside price? The interior of the Insight has less of a "spaceship-like feel," says HybridCars.com, but it is also smaller – a compact car, as opposed to the Prius's midsize proportions.

The Insight is not eligible for a federal tax credit.
