The book-retailing giant not only allows dogs in the workplace, it has a long dog-friendly pedigree. Rufus the corgi, also known as “Amazon’s shortest volunteer worker,” was the company’s mascot in its early days. In 1994, Rufus belonged to Amazon’s former principal engineer and editor-in-chief, who brought him to work every day.
Today, “everything canine – from corgis to Chihuahuas – can be seen in our offices,” says Michele Glisson, senior manager of corporate communications for the Seattle-based company. “We believe in working hard and having fun – and our employees’ dogs contribute every day to creating a casual and fun work environment.”
