5. Get a frequent shopper card

Many stores encourage repeat customers by offering a frequent shopper card that the salesperson will punch with every purchase for an additional 10 percent savings. If a store doesn't offer one, ask the owner or salesperson. Getting to know the staff may not always score you a discount, but they can often direct you to the latest merchandise and great deals.
