A fighter Aero L-29 Delfin loses a speed race against a Mercedes-Benz SLS sports car during the Slovak International Air Fest at the airport in Sliac, Slovakia, in August. If you want your car to last 100,000 miles or more, don't try to beat fighter jets. Drive easy.

Cars that are driven easy last longer. Avoid driving habits that put stress and strain on your vehicle, such as driving too fast, hitting curbs, overloading, exceeding the towing capacity, and off-road driving. By the way, not keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you can be hard on your car, too, if it means hard stops and quick accelerations. Braking and accelerating fast wastes gas and wears out components faster, such as tires and brakes.
