"We expect foreign entities will continue efforts to collect information on the full array of US military technologies in use or under development," the report says. There are two likely areas of specific interest:
• Marine systems: China wants to create a robust new "blue water" navy able to project power in the Taiwan Strait and defend maritime trade routes. Key among the targets are US marine systems and other technologies.
• Aerospace/aeronautics: Air supremacy, demonstrated by US military operations in recent conflicts, is a key focus for spies from several nations. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, or UAVs, are doubtless a focus because of US drone success in Afghanistan and Iraq.
