Forbes billionaires list: Meet the nine richest self-made women

Forbes has released its annual billionaires list, and nestled among the usual suspects were women who have made or helped make their own fortunes, in industries ranging from television to real estate to clothing. These are the nine richest self-made women on Forbes 2013 Billionaires List.

2. Margarita Louis-Dreyfus

Net worth: $6 billion

Country: Switzerland

Source of wealth: Commodities

Overall Forbes rank: 198

Technically, Ms. Louis-Dreyfus inherited her initial fortune from her late husband Robert in 2009. But this is her first time on the billionaires list, thanks to rising commodity prices and moves she has made as chairman of the French commodities giant Louis Dreyfus and Louis Dreyfus SAS. She sold the company’s energy trading interests and raised capital on public markets for the first time in the company’s history.

Fun fact: American Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a first cousin once removed.
