4K TVs are shedding their high prices and this week's best TV deals are proof. Featured in our roundup is the award-winning 55" Vizio P-Series HDTV, a set that boasts 4K resolution along with all the modern specs you'd want in a 4K TV like HDMI 2.0 and fast 802.11ac WiFi. It's also the cheapest brand-name 55" 4K we've seen to date. We've also got a 58" 4K TV from Panasonic along with 1080p sets from LG and RCA.

  1. Vizio 55" Ultra 4K 2160p WiFi LED-Backlit LCD Smart HDTV bundled with a $28 Amazon credit
    Store: Amazon
    Price: $1,398 with free shipping
    Lowest By: $26

Is It Worth It?: Even if you're not in the market for a 4K TV, the Vizio P552ui-B2 still deserves your attention because at $1,398 it's the cheapest brand-name 55" 4K TV we've seen. As a result, this TV will not only drive the price of 4K down, but it'll also knock down the price of high-end 1080p TVs; a win-win scenario for all. In terms of features, the Vizio P552ui-B2 is bursting with technology, starting with its 3840x2160 resolution. It also features a full-array local dimming LED backlight with 64 dimmable zones, which CNET says could make the P-series "one of the best-performing 4K TVs on the market." Other notable features include a 240Hz refresh rate, built-in 802.11ac WiFi, Vizio Internet Apps (with access to Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, and other apps), and five HDMI 2.0 ports.

  2. Panasonic AX800 57.5" 2160p 4K Ultra HD LCD HD Television
    Store: Panasonic
    Price: $1,999.99 with free shipping
    Lowest By: $620
    Expires: September 24

Is It Worth It?: "Panasonic's high-end AX800 line of 4K HDTVs are well-styled and brimming with features," says PC Mag. And although it displays mediocre black levels and contrast ratio, it still offers impressive picture quality and a "surprisingly quick 37.5-millisecond input lag with its Game mode enabled, making it one of the fastest we've tested so far." It features a 3840x2160 native resolution, LED backlight, WiFi, SD card slot, USB 3.0, DisplayPort, and four HDMI ports.

  3. LG 55" 120Hz 1080p LED-Backlit LCD HD Television bundled with a$250 Dell eGift Card
    Store: Dell Home
    Price: $699 with free shipping

Is It Worth It?: "For budget shoppers, or as a secondary TV, this series cuts out frills and leaves mostly good stuff," says Reviewed. And although the LG 55LN5400 doesn't boast the same specs as other modern competitors, this 55" TV should satisfy budget shoppers with its 1080p resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and two HDMI ports. Even better, it comes with a $250 Dell gift card.

  4. RCA 31.5" 720p Rear-Lit LED-Backlit LCD HD Television
    Store: Fry's
    Price: $159 with free shipping
    Lowest By: $21
    Expires: September 25

Is It Worth It?: This 720p TV doesn't have much to offer in terms of features, but price-wise it's the cheapest TV in our roundup this week, making it just right for a spare room or children's room. The 32" RCA LED32G30RQ offers 720p resolution and two HDMI ports.

  5. RCA 46" 1080p LED-Backlit LCD HD Television
    Store: Walmart
    Price: $299 with free shipping
    Lowest By: $31

Is It Worth It?: The RCA LED46C45RQ is PC Mag's top pick for sub-$500 HDTVs. Despite a few sacrifices, it says the TV's picture quality is "above average for sets in this price range." Currently at an all-time price low, this Editors' Choice TV features 1080p resolution, LED backlight, and two HDMI ports.

What is the Monitor difference? Tackling the tough headlines – with humanity. Listening to sources – with respect. Seeing the story that others are missing by reporting what so often gets overlooked: the values that connect us. That’s Monitor reporting – news that changes how you see the world.

Dear Reader,

About a year ago, I happened upon this statement about the Monitor in the Harvard Business Review – under the charming heading of “do things that don’t interest you”:

“Many things that end up” being meaningful, writes social scientist Joseph Grenny, “have come from conference workshops, articles, or online videos that began as a chore and ended with an insight. My work in Kenya, for example, was heavily influenced by a Christian Science Monitor article I had forced myself to read 10 years earlier. Sometimes, we call things ‘boring’ simply because they lie outside the box we are currently in.”

If you were to come up with a punchline to a joke about the Monitor, that would probably be it. We’re seen as being global, fair, insightful, and perhaps a bit too earnest. We’re the bran muffin of journalism.

But you know what? We change lives. And I’m going to argue that we change lives precisely because we force open that too-small box that most human beings think they live in.

The Monitor is a peculiar little publication that’s hard for the world to figure out. We’re run by a church, but we’re not only for church members and we’re not about converting people. We’re known as being fair even as the world becomes as polarized as at any time since the newspaper’s founding in 1908.

We have a mission beyond circulation, we want to bridge divides. We’re about kicking down the door of thought everywhere and saying, “You are bigger and more capable than you realize. And we can prove it.”

If you’re looking for bran muffin journalism, you can subscribe to the Monitor for $15. You’ll get the Monitor Weekly magazine, the Monitor Daily email, and unlimited access to CSMonitor.com.
