Heritage Fridays

In Miss Sherry's third grade class at ICS, every other Friday is heritage day and ends with a presentation by one or two students. Some bring food, some dress up, some tell stories...

Lee notes that because about half of all ICS families are refugees or recent immigrants, it isn't surprising that the school is abuzz with talk of different cultural heritages.

She says that Naza Orlovic, the teacher assistant, pointed out that even when two children from the same country present, she always learns something new - if one is a boy and the other a girl, they talk about different things and, in effect, describe different worlds.
