PlayStation Move review

3. Other launch titles

Sony
Is that guy grinding an office chair along a power line? Yup. That's Kung Fu Rider for ya. The game is one of several PlayStation Move launch titles.

Sony has queued up a bunch of games to release alongside the Move:

Kung Fu Rider, by far the most bizarre of the launch titles, is ostensibly a snowboarding game. But instead of Shaun White, you control a whiny private detective or his under-dressed assistant. Instead of navigating ski slopes, you rocket down twisty city streets. And, instead of riding a snowboard, you desperately cling to an office chair, vacuum cleaner, or some other makeshift vehicle of-last-resort. Oh, and you're trying to escape the Hong Kong mafia. It's a very strange game. Unfortunately, the novelty tappers off quickly. Watching your office chair grind on a railing then crash in slow-mo inspires giggles at first, but the game's lack of depth quickly becomes apparent.

Start the Party! uses Move's motion controls for bursts of frantic fun. Its colorful, competitive minigames send your arms flailing, trying to virtually paint objects, shave heads, and knock creatures before time runs out. As its name implies, this game is best enjoyed among friend – particularly kids.

EyePet is an adorable, if sometimes frustrating, game of digital husbandry. You train, care for, and goof around with a rascally-looking little critter. Think of it as Tamagotchi for the HD era. While the Move controllers work well, the Sony camera requires a lot of light to function appropriately. Some families may need to scavenge the house for extra lamps to keep the beast happy.
