WikiReader is on a quixotic mission to deliver "the Internet without the Internet." The pocket encyclopedia packs 3 million downloaded Wikipedia articles into a palm-sized touch screen, made all the more tempting with an easy search feature, endless cross-reference links, and a "Random" button that plucks a different history lesson every time. This device is not for everyone. Smart phones and easy access to the Web make the WikiReader seem a little unnecessary. But for lives untethered from PCs or kids too young to roam the Internet, the WikiReader is a lovely offline reference tool.
