When you’re buying mint plants or scented geraniums, you often discover that some are more fragrant than others, even of the same type. (And some may not offer the scent you were expecting.)

The solution? Rub a leaf between your fingers and sniff. Then choose the plants with the strongest or most pleasant fragrance.
