In this classic Western written by William Goldman, who also wrote the screenplay for "All the President's Men" Newman and Redford portray turn-of-the-century outlaws Robert LeRoy Parker and Harry Longabaugh, bank robbers who are relentlessly pursued by authorities in the United States and Bolivia.
The film has spawned at least two great American institutions: Redford named the Sundance Festival in Utah for his character's nickname, and Newman named the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for seriously ill children in Ashford, Connecticut after Parker and Longabaugh outlaw gang.
