Thelonious Monk made a dozen or so LPs for Columbia Records, but this is my favorite. And it looks as good as it sounds. Design guru Bob Cato's cover is height of NY jazz cool, framing W. Eugene Smith's classic photo of Monk in repose. Monk's quartet on this collection was his best ever, with Charlie Rouse on tenor, Larry Gales on bass, and the ageless Ben Riley on drums.
