I'm so proud and grateful to be a part of 'Big Bang,' and the chance to celebrate in this way with the whole team is a really special experience, especially six years into our run - you really never know with these awards-things, so it's very important to enjoy it while it's happening."

Mayim Bialik (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, "The Big Bang Theory"): "I am legitimately in shock and beyond honored to be nominated for the second year in a row alongside the inspirational Jim Parsons and our fantastically written show. I can't begin to express how shocked I am to be nominated with such an impressive group of women. Wow! Now I have to find a dress."

Almost four years into this journey, and well underway on production for Season Two, it's such a thrill to have the collective efforts of our talented cast, crew, designers, directors and writers recognized by the Television Academy. This dedicated team has made 'House of Cards' by far the most rewarding artistic experience of my career. And of course I'm delighted for David Fincher  -- his brilliance and vision inspire us all."

Howard Gordon (various, "Homeland"): "It's always humbling when you're recognized by your peers and colleagues. I am thrilled for Peter, Diana, David and Dan, HBO and the entire cast and crew of 'Game of Thrones.' I can't begin to tell you how proud I am to go to work every day with this incredible team who has become a second family. I am so grateful to David and Dan for taking a chance on me and giving me the privilege of being the mother of dragons.

Sigourney Weaver (Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie, "Political Animals"): "Such great news to wake up to. I am thrilled that 'Political Animals' is nominated for Outstanding Miniseries and that Greg Berlanti's compelling vision of Elaine Barrish Hammond and what women bring to the political process continues to be recognized. I am dancing on the table for Ellen Burstyn who rocked that role. And I am very touched and honored that my work as Elaine is nominated. It means so much to me.  Thank you to the academy and thank you so much to USA who championed our show."

Tim Gunn (Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program): "It is still a bit surreal but I am thrilled and honored to be nominated alongside Heidi and the show. Ryan Seacrest (Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program, "American Idol"): "I'm grateful and honored to be nominated for my work on 'American Idol.' But I would be remiss if I didn't say that I share this nod with the countless people involved with the show – all the judges, contestants, producers, crew and everyone at Fox. It's been a continuous collaboration for 12 seasons -- soon to be 13 --and I'm just happy to be a part of it."

Anna Chlumsky (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy, "Veep"):  "I am proud as can be of everyone on this show. We have a marvelous time at work, and to know people in our community are noticing that is the best kind of encouragement. I feel that way individually, as well. Truly appreciative that folks dig my work. I love doing it, and being noticed for it puts a nice spring in the step. So, congrats to Julia, Tony, and all the cast and crew. It'll be fun to get dolled up again, nay?"

Heidi Klum (Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program, "Project Runway"): "I'm so honored by Project Runway's five nominations, and I'm thrilled to be nominated for Host alongside my dear friend Tim Gunn. It's also our TWELFTH season premiere tonight!  Hard to believe.  We work so hard on the show, and never take these nominations for granted. Can't wait for the Emmys in September!"

Shane Smith (Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, 'Vice'): "We are insanely stoked and a little bit stunned to be nominated in our virgin season, and really have to thank HBO for giving us the creative freedom to make the show we wanted. Most of our crew are now in the field shooting season two, but on their behalf and on behalf of all of us here at 'Vice,' we want to say 'thank you.' There's only love."

Melissa Leo (Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, "Louie"): "I am over the moon with the nomination this morning! So thrilled and honored to see my name next to such consummate funny ladies! The joy and pleasure of working with Louis CK would have been more than enough - many thanks to the Television Academy!"

Nigel Lythgoe (various, "So You Think You Can Dance"): "I am honored to see' So You Think You Can Dance' recognized with 7 new Emmy nominations. 'So You Think You Can Dance' has allowed me to share my love of dance, provide opportunities to thousands of aspiring dancers, and inspire millions more to make dance a part of their lives.  We reached out to Congress and launched National Dance Day to encourage children to dance and to get active and healthy in the process. Since the show premiered in 2005, we have adapted localized versions of it for over 25 nations around the world – a testament to the universal power of dance.  I have a wonderful production team and incredible choreographers. I am delighted to see the past decade of our contributions to television and culture recognized with these 7 Emmy nominations for 'So You Think You Can Dance'."

Cat Deeley (Outstanding Host  for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program, "So You Think You Can Dance"): "I am so honored and excited to be recognized amongst such an incredibly talented group of hosts. Real news can be honest, hopeful, credible, constructive.
What is the Monitor difference? Tackling the tough headlines – with humanity. Listening to sources – with respect. Seeing the story that others are missing by reporting what so often gets overlooked: the values that connect us. That’s Monitor reporting – news that changes how you see the world.

Dear Reader,

About a year ago, I happened upon this statement about the Monitor in the Harvard Business Review – under the charming heading of “do things that don’t interest you”:

“Many things that end up” being meaningful, writes social scientist Joseph Grenny, “have come from conference workshops, articles, or online videos that began as a chore and ended with an insight. My work in Kenya, for example, was heavily influenced by a Christian Science Monitor article I had forced myself to read 10 years earlier. Sometimes, we call things ‘boring’ simply because they lie outside the box we are currently in.”

If you were to come up with a punchline to a joke about the Monitor, that would probably be it. We’re seen as being global, fair, insightful, and perhaps a bit too earnest. We’re the bran muffin of journalism.

But you know what? We change lives. And I’m going to argue that we change lives precisely because we force open that too-small box that most human beings think they live in.

The Monitor is a peculiar little publication that’s hard for the world to figure out. We’re run by a church, but we’re not only for church members and we’re not about converting people. We’re known as being fair even as the world becomes as polarized as at any time since the newspaper’s founding in 1908.

We have a mission beyond circulation, we want to bridge divides. We’re about kicking down the door of thought everywhere and saying, “You are bigger and more capable than you realize. And we can prove it.”

If you’re looking for bran muffin journalism, you can subscribe to the Monitor for $15. You’ll get the Monitor Weekly magazine, the Monitor Daily email, and unlimited access to CSMonitor.com.
