The most stressful job is inner-city teaching. Teaching is always a demanding job, often more than 40 hours per week including out-of-classroom preparation. In many American cities, schools lack proper air conditioning and heat, the latest technology and other basic resources that would support the teacher. To hold the job requires licensing, often in the districts that the teacher works in, and daily interaction with students outside the classroom.
In addition, education reform policies are requiring that schools reach particular goals in order to keep federal funding. Over 1 million educators are employed in public primary and secondary schools in the US, with a median salary of $52,200.
