1976, age 62

To mark the 200th birthday of the United States, LaLanne towed 13 aluminum skiffs, which represented the 13 colonies, for a mile along the Long Beach Harbor in Long Beach, Calif. The skiffs contained a total of 76 children, which represented America’s youth. LaLanne’s feet were bound and his hands were cuffed above his head, adding an additional challenge to the swim.
