Michele Bachmann, Rand Paul, and 8 others shaking up the new Congress

Because this House freshman class - 96 strong, including 87 Republicans - is the largest since 1992, those who speak for them, or claim to, have a leg up. Here are ten to watch.

Representative Andrews is known for his ability to make complex issues, such as last year’s health-care legislation, accessible to voters – and to colleagues.

As the top Democrat on the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions subcommittee, he aims to protect the health reforms of the last Congress as well as retirement savings.

In a recent floor speech, he asked Republicans to answer whether seniors have to return $250 checks, if the 2010 health-care law that provided them is repealed. Then he waited for the response. The silence made headlines.

“I’m trying to draw out the Republican argument to show its weakness,” he says. “In this new role on defense, Democrats have to be sharp, without being offensive.” Andrews has also been asked to be a liaison with party leaders on committees.
