Holiday shopping online: How to avoid the '12 cyber scams of Christmas'

With more Americans turning to the Internet for more of their holiday shopping needs, good cybersecurity is vital to avoid a raft of scams – from promises of "free iPads" to "holidays screensavers" that install malware on your computer. Here are the "12 cyber scams of Christmas." 

10. The deal that's too good to be true

How about this one: "HUGE SALE save up to 90% ALL PRODUCTS MUST GO! iPads, MacBooks, & more up to 90% Off.... Be a part of the Hottest Online Shopping Crazy since eBay." 

That's just one recent spam message that arrived in the e-mail of Graham Cluley, an analyst with Sophos, a cybersecurity company.

"If you receive an unsolicited commercial e-mail don't try, don't buy, don't reply," Mr. Cluley advises on his blog. The best way not to be taken in by a scam is to shop only online sites you already know, he and other experts say.
