Palin’s endorsement of tea party favorite Rand Paul – son of former presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul – helped propel him to an overwhelming victory in the March primary. It was the first big win by a tea party candidate and outsider taking on the establishment (in this case, Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, who had the backing of Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell).
Palin wasn’t afraid to endorse Paul early on, despite Grayson’s favored status, and Paul embraced the endorsement and got more attention from tea partyers as a result. This week, Palin is headlining a fundraiser for Paul in Louisville.
