Basketball star Bill Bradley showed that white men can jump - into politics. The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame player and Rhodes scholar took a stab at the presidency in 2000, opposing Vice President Al Gore for the Democratic nomination.
Though he received several big name endorsements, after failing to win any of the first 20 primaries and caucuses in March 2000, Bradley withdrew his campaign and threw his support to Gore.
Previously, Bradley had been one of New Jersey's US senators from 1980-1998.
