Rand Paul’s victory in Kentucky’s May GOP Senate primary over an establishment candidate, Secretary of State Trey Grayson, was an early indication of the role tea party believers would play in the 2010 midterm elections.
Dr. Paul (he’s an ophthalmologist) was an early favorite for the general election against state Attorney General Jack Conway, since Kentucky is a Republican-leaning state. But Mr. Conway has attacked Paul for allegedly supporting higher Medicare deductibles, among other things, and the race remains close.
Right now polls show Paul with a slight edge.
