Huntsman, who is not particularly strong with the tea party or religious conservatives, will likely go after the establishment mantle.
“His base would begin with fiscal conservatives and social moderates ... then expand to independents and loosely identified Democrats,” says Tim Chambless, professor for the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
And Huntsman is perhaps best poised among the Republican contenders to capture the youth vote, adds Mr. Quinn. “He hit it off well with the students here,” he says.
