Over 2 million unemployed people awoke Wednesday to the prospect that they may no longer have unemployment checks to help them pay rent or buy food and gas.

Individuals who are currently receiving state unemployment will get their checks until their 26 weeks of eligibility ends. Although the total number of the unemployed changes each week, there are about 4 million on federal unemployment benefits at any given time.
