Patent reform is one of the rare job-creating measures that enjoys bipartisan support and the backing of the White House. It’s been more than half a century since Congress has overhauled patent laws, and confusion over property rights is blocking innovation and job creation, both sides say.
The House passed a bill in June that simplifies how patents are awarded and challenged in the courts. House Republicans call it the single most important job-creation bill passed in this session of Congress. Another measure to improve the business climate for entrepreneurs is tort reform, to curb frivolous lawsuits.
