The St. Louis Browns defeat the Chicago White Sox, 5-3.
In a doubleheader on the last day of the season, the St. Louis Browns use a different pitcher in every inning of a first-game loss. In the nightcap, the Browns handed the ball to 20-year-old Eddie Albrecht to see what the sensational minor leaguer, brought up from the Pine Bluff (Ark.) Judges, could do. Albrecht arrived after notching 29 wins and striking out 389 batters in the Class C Cotton States League. He pitches only five innings but gets the win when the game is called on account of darkness. Oddly, Albrecht ends his big-league career after pitching only one game the next season, in 1950, taking the loss and ending with a 1-1 overall record in the majors.
Additional fact: In a statistical curiosity, Albrecht’s earned-run average in each of his two major-league seasons was exactly 5.40.
