Charlottesville: Lives changed

In the run-up to the first anniversary of the Charlottesville, Va., white nationalist rallies that shook the United States, Monitor reporters have learned that its legacy isn’t any one thing. For the city’s Jewish former mayor, it is different than for a local young black activist, or for the mother of the counterprotester who was killed. In looking at how different lives and outlooks have changed, we hope to examine these different perspectives through compelling stories. Exploring these perspectives, while sometimes uncomfortable, helps to reveal why people see the world the way they do. Without that, finding a common way forward is almost impossible.
