Some day historians may very well remember 2010 as the Year of the Excessive Meat Sandwich. There was the KFC Double Down, a $5 bacon-and-cheese sandwich that uses a pair of chicken patties instead of bread; the Krispy Kreme Cheeseburger, a cheeseburger between doughnut halves; and Carl's Jr.'s footlong cheeseburger.
And let's not forget the McRib, McDonald's rib-shaped chopped pork sandwich that was discontinued in 1985, only to be revived for the 21st century, thanks to a campaign from the Boneless Pig Farmers of America.
What we learned: Americans are tireless innovators, at least when it comes to discovering new ways to infuse their diet with calories.
