Apparently, Osama bin Laden had travel plans to Europe, or he just preferred the Eurozone currency over others. US forces discovered 500 euros ($740) on bin Laden, along with two telephone numbers sewn into his clothes, reports Politico – "sure signs that he was prepared to flee his compound at a moment’s notice – top US intelligence officials told members of Congress at a classified briefing in the Capitol Tuesday."
Con Coughlin, the Telegraph's executive foreign editor, points out that dollars are the favored currency in the region, jesting that bin Laden's "preference for euros over the dollar may simply be down to the fact that, at heart, bin Laden was a closet europhile."
