Royals often receive a new title with their nuptials. Unless William’s father, Prince Charles, passes away before he succeeds his mother, Queen Elizabeth, William will become Prince of Wales, the traditional title for the heir to the throne, the Washington Post reports. Middleton, as his wife, would become Princess of Wales.
However, she could refuse that title, and there is precedent for doing so. Prince Charles’s wife, Camila, goes by Duchess of Cornwall or Duchess of Rothesay (her husband’s other titles), rather than Princess of Wales, because of the latter’s association with the late Princess Diana.
