In February 2010, three Google Italy executives were held criminally responsible for privacy violation over a video posted of a handicapped teenager being bullied; the prosecutors argued that Italian privacy law was broken by not obtaining consent of all parties before the video was posted.
The video had been posted in September 2006 shortly before the company acquired YouTube, the company maintained it took it down after it was discovered and that screening all content prior to posting was impossible.
The executives were handed a suspended six-month jail term; Google planned to appeal the decision.
