A two-time NBA All Star and longtime member of the New York Knicks, Stephon Marbury ditched the Boston Celtics in 2010 to play basketball in the Far East.
After an initial bout of jet-lag, Mr. Marbury rebounded in his first season for the Shanxi Zhongyu Brave Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association to be named the league's most valuable player. As state-run news agency Xinhua reported, "Stephon Marbury of the Shanxi Zhongyu introduced more no-look pass, alley-hoops, and mid-court 3-pointers into the Game, which won him the Most Valuable Player award of the All-Star."
In August, according to The Wall Street Journal, he signed onto a three-year contract to stay with the Brave Dragons. “Being able to be someplace where they show nothing but love to you… It’s the best feeling in the world,” Marbury recently said. “You’re going somewhere where people want to be around you, they want to understand you, they take the time to understand you. It’s new. It’s a brand-new start.”
