Worth $31 billion, Lakshmi Mittal is India's richest man, Europe's richest resident, and the sixth richest person in the world. He was the world's fifth-richest man last year, but has been bumped back by the rise of Frenchman Bernard Arnault (now ranked 4th, up from 7th last year) and American Larry Ellison (now ranked 5th, up from 6th last year).

Mr. Mittal serves as chairman of ArcelorMittal ADS, the world's largest steel-maker, whose net profits rose 20 percent over 2010 to $78 billion, according to Forbes. He lives in London.
