Fence, guardposts weighed to tighten Capitol security
Congressional security officials have proposed building a 10-foot-high iron fence and guardposts around the Capitol to deter would-be terrorists. The proposals were made by House Sergeant at Arms Jack Russ, acting Capitol Police Chief Jemas Tollinger, and Capitol Architect George White at a House hearing into security measures to protect Congress against incidents such as the bombing of the Senate building last week.
Mr. White noted that the Capitol had an iron fence around it in the 1880s.
