Jon Katz has written many books about dogs and they are all worth reading but my favorite is A Dog Year: Twelve Months, Four Dogs, and Me. This touching and humorous story features Katz along with two Labrador retrievers and two border collies. But the book's true star is Devon, the first border collie to enter Katz's life and the problem child of the group.
Katz has a theory that you may love many dogs in your lifetime but there can be only one true dog of your heart. Devon – although his story is complex and spills beyond the boundaries of this book – is that dog for Katz.
For any dog lover, this one is irresistible.
