While the Florida Senate race has gotten the most press nationally, it’s the governor’s race that has been the closest.

Recent polls have gone back and forth between favoring Democratic candidate Alex Sink, the state’s chief financial officer, and Republican Rick Scott, who pulled out a surprise win in the primary after spending large amounts of his own money.

In recent weeks, Mr. Scott’s numbers have been rising somewhat, and Florida is arguably a Republican-leaning state even in a year that didn’t favor Republicans as much as this one does.

Still, Ms. Sink has managed to keep the race close – and Scott has struggled to build enthusiasm. In a race that seems to swing back and forth weekly, it’s anyone’s guess who the victor will be next week.

As in many races, the outcome may hinge largely on who can best mobilize voters – a possible challenge for Sink given the relative weakness of Democratic Senate candidate Kendrick Meek.
