As well as being the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas, Qatar is an OPEC member and was the 16th biggest crude oil exporter in the world in 2009. Qatar’s own oil consumption has more than tripled since 2000, due to a growing economy. Qatar has the second highest GDP per capita in the world, estimated at $102,700 in 2011. Oil and gas revenues make up 50 percent of Qatar’s GDP.
